Happy New Year 2019!

I hope you will enjoy the 12 Days of Christmas haiku; there will be published one each day starting on Christmas Day. Subscribe to my newsletter to never miss a blog post.

In older versions of the song the nine ladies dancing were lords a leaping, drummers drumming, bulls a-roaring, bears a beating, even pipers pipping.

Dancing was an important part of rituals, celebrations and even social communications since 30 000 years ago, with rock-art and Egyptian tomb paintings bearing witness. Dancing was also a way to worship the sun, this being done in a circle movement around a fire, from east to west – following the sun’s movement on the sky.

Happy New Year 2019, New Year’s Day via @PatFurstenberg #HappyNewYear #HappyNewYear2019 #Pentatonix #Music #FeelGood #TuesdayBlogShare

Happy New Year! I hope you will choose to focus on the future and its endless possibilities! You can “ kiss the past away ” and be the Kind or Queen of your own world!

New Year’s celebrations can be traced as far back as the times before Christianity spread. Although during the Roman era the month of March marked the beginning of the calendar and the year, it was Julius Cesar creating the Julian calendar that set the New Year where we know it today.

But whatever you do this January 1st, don’t let social convention dictate what you do, rather choose what feels best for you.

New Year’s Day  – lyrics

Tonight, the apple falls in time
We’ll sing along with Auld Lang Syne
And throw confetti high up into space
Tomorrow morning when we wake
This town will be a different place
And the past will wash away like coffee stains
We could be kings of the world
On top of the nation
It’s a celebration of the moments to come
The city’s on fire
We’re holding up lighters
Raising them higher and we’ve only begun
Take me all the way (oh)
Hear me when I say (yeah)
Let’s kiss the past away
Like New Year’s Day
Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
It’s time to celebrate
Like New Year’s Day
We’ll play it back in slow rewind
And laugh about the cold and bitter nights
We’re [?] our way on maps of stars
Hold on tight to fragile hearts
And keep our friends forever by our side
We could be kings of the world
On top of the nation
It’s a celebration of the moments to come
The city’s on fire
We’re holding up lighters
Raising them higher and we’ve only begun
Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
Let’s kiss the past away
Like New Year’s Day
Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
It’s time to celebrate
Like New Year’s Day
Morning breaks, take my hand
Wide awake with arms wide open
Catch your breath, walk this way
No regrets on New Year’s Day
Morning breaks, take my hand (kings of the world, top of the nation)
Wide awake with arms wide open (it’s a celebration of the moments to come)
Catch your breath, walk this way (city’s on fire, holding up lighters)
No regrets on New Year’s Day (raising them higher, we’ve only begun)
We could be kings of the world
On top of the nation
It’s a celebration of the moments to come
The city’s on fire
We’re holding up lighters
Raising them higher and we’ve only begun
Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
Let’s kiss the past away
Like New Year’s Day
Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
It’s time to celebrate
Like New Year’s Day
Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
Let’s kiss the past away
Like New Year’s Day
Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
It’s time to celebrate
Like New Year’s Day

Movie Music Monday, Wartime Classic, WW2, Begin the Beguine, Happy New Year via @PatFurstenberg #HappyNewYear #ww2 #moviemusicmonday

A most beloved war-time classic song, Begin the Beguine was composed by Cole Porter in 1935, turned into a swing by Artie Shaw and band and made famous by Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell. Their legendary tap dance in the movie Broadway Melody surely caught on.

Begin the Beguine  by Cole Porter – lyrics

“When they begin the beguine
It brings back the sound of music so tender,
It brings back a night of tropical splendor,
It brings back a memory ever green.I’m with you once more under the stars,
And down by the shore an orchestra’s playing
And even the palms seem to be swaying
When they begin the beguine. To live it again is past all endeavor,
Except when that tune clutches my heart,
And there we are, swearing to love forever,
And promising never, never to part. What moments divine, what rapture serene,
Till clouds came along to disperse the joys we had tasted,
And now when I hear people curse the chance that was wasted,
I know but too well what they mean;So don’t let them begin the beguine
Let the love that was once a fire remain an ember;
Let it sleep like the dead desire I only remember
When they begin the beguine.Oh yes, let them begin the beguine, make them play
Till the stars that were there before return above you,
Till you whisper to me once more,
“Darling, I love you!”
And we suddenly know, what heaven we’re in,
When they begin the beguine”
