Who&#8217;s with me? \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>June, a month whose name is as old as time<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\">Yes, June derives from Latin <em>Junius<\/em>, but it is assumed that it could actually be derived from <em>junior<\/em>, <em>juniores<\/em>, meaning a younger man in Latin, the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\">This way, it makes sense that this month of June be meant to celebrate the <em>young <\/em>population of the Roman Empire, <em>juvenis<\/em>, <em>juvene<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Romulus organised the people,<br>Dividing them into two parts, according to age:<br>One was ready to give advice, the other to fight:<br>One decided on war, while the other waged it.<br>So he decreed, and divided the months likewise:<br><strong>June <\/strong>for the young (<em>iuvenes<\/em>): the month before for the old.&#8221;<\/p><cite>Ovid in Fasti, Book Six, June <br><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" data-attachment-id=\"14938\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/june-ciresar-month-for-young-at-heart\/cherries\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cherries.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"600,400\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"cherries\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-medium-file=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cherries-300x200.jpg\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cherries.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cherries.jpg\" alt=\"June, Cire\u015far, a Month for the Young at Heart\" class=\"wp-image-14938\" title=\"June, Cire\u015far, a Month for the Young at Heart\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cherries.jpg 600w, https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/cherries-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why June ought to be the month of those young at heart<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One must be realistic now and consider the life expectancy (not <em>life span<\/em>) during the times of the Roman Empire, that was of about 25 years of age (factoring in the high infant and child mortality). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While today, the life expectancy of men and women had long opened wide the gates of the eighties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As old blue eyes put it, &#8220;For it&#8217;s hard, you will find \/ To be narrow of mind if you&#8217;re young at heart.&#8221; \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, again, I think we ought to turn June, <em>Cire\u015far<\/em> (a month when the <em>cherries<\/em>, aptly, ripe twice), into the month of everyone who&#8217;s young at heart. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think that something amazing can happen when you&#8217;re young at heart. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I write this, outside is a very cold autumn day, for we&#8217;re on the other half of the world here, in South Africa. It is overcast, it rained and it is cold, yet my heart (who lived in the northern hemisphere for a long while) knows it is the 1st of June, and I feel cheery and happy inside. Look, even the sun tries to shine outside my window now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"165\" height=\"173\" data-attachment-id=\"8526\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/green-poem-photography-garden\/red3-1\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/red3-1.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"165,173\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"red3-1\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-medium-file=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/red3-1.jpg\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/red3-1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/red3-1.jpg\" alt=\"red rose for the young at heart\" class=\"wp-image-8526\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A second, hidden etymology of the month of June<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\">Yet if you glanced upon Ovid&#8217;s poem, you will know that there is another explanation for the origin of June, namely the goddess Iuno (Iunona or Junona) &#8211; Roman godess of childbirth and fertility, and the protective goddess of women.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I remember reading somewhere: &#8220;as any man has his muse, any woman has her Juno.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"tw-target-text\">But since Juno (as any Roman goddess could) married her sibling Jupiter (or Jove), the symbology of the month June might have been changed over time, perhaps even at the request of the Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Old Romanian beliefs connected with the month of June<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/wish-own-transylvania-tonight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vlachs of old Wallachia<\/a> (today part of Romania) believed that June threw at the thunders and lightnings in abundance, then the summer that just blossomed will be an overcast one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If June is rainy, then on Christmas we will enjoy an abundant feast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the warm, Great Wind blows in summer from the north, then the wheat harvest will be early, and rich,  while a rainy June will bring a wealth of corn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But also, one should not swim on 24 June (around Summer Solstice, <a href=\"https:\/\/alluringcreations.co.za\/wp\/plants-names-romanian-folktales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Midsummer Day) when it the Dr\u0103gaica celebration happens <\/a>(a day set aside for the ritual involved in the protection of grain cultures, but fruits too), for it is danger of drowning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although, if you can cross a water three times on Dr\u0103gaica day ans till make it to shore, then you will be safe from drowning for the remainder of the year&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Romanians are renowned for their sharp (black) humor&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr\u0103gaica was the name used for this celebration in greater Wallachia, while S\u00e2nziene was used in Moldavia.
