When I heard her charming romcom debut was on the way, I knew I had to be part of her special day. She is a writer who brings warmth, wit, and heart to every story—just as she does to those lucky enough to call her a friend.

Jessie is from the north of England. She writes romance books with an enthralling mystery to hook the reader.

From an early age, Jessie spun elaborate stories to explain why her father wore cowboy boots and owned many rusty cars. Writing has always been her perfect escape destination, and she was thrilled to encourage her pupils to love the power of words and follow their dreams.

My review of A Gift for Maisie Bloom by Jessie Cahalin

Jessie Cahalin’s A Gift for Maisie Bloom opens with young teacher Maisie at the start of her career, grappling with an unexpected inheritance—a cottage in the English countryside. But this is no ordinary gift. It comes from her beloved Aunt Ada who has mysteriously vanished and is presumed dead. As Maisie settles into her new home, she finds herself entangled in both the lingering mystery of her aunt’s disappearance and the ever-busy small-town gossip that follows her arrival.

Yet the cottage isn’t the only surprise life has in store for Maisie. Alongside her new rural existence she must navigate the attentions of not one, but two potential suitors—the dashing Felix and the charmingly athletic Danny. Will Maisie, whose imagination often runs ahead of her, choose wisely? Adding another layer to her journey, Aunt Ada’s legacy presents Maisie with an even deeper gift—the chance to rekindle her passion for writing and continue the literary tradition of her aunt and great-aunt.

I thoroughly enjoyed the novel’s depiction of the charming yet nosy English countryside, where everyone seems to have a say in everyone else’s business. Following Maisie to Paris added another delightful dimension—more romance, more intrigue with a touch of adventure. Witnessing Maisie’s transformation from an endearingly clumsy country mouse into a poised and self-assured young woman was a joy, especially as an unexpected friendship blossomed into a sweet, heartfelt romance.

The novel is sprinkled with witty dialogue and laugh-out-loud moments and while the romance is light and charming, the mystery keeps things engaging, culminating in a surprisingly satisfying twist. Maisie felt like the girl next door—relatable, warm, and someone you can’t help but root for. Though the English countryside is unfamiliar to me, it was painted exactly as one would expect, and Paris was captured in all its dreamy, la vie en rose charm.

From the first chapter, Maisie took my hand and didn’t let go until the very last page. I can only hope she returns for another mystery.

I thought that A Gift for Maisie Bloom by Jessie Cahalin is “Sabrina” meets “Miss Marple”.

A Gift for Maisie Bloom by Jessie Cahalin is the ideal read for lovers of small-town cozy mysteries and clean, friends-to-lovers romances.

    1. Thomas, it is an entertaining world to escape into. For.me, some of the highlights of the story I haven’t mentioned were the flight to Paris and the brief presence of a dog 😉
