Only a red brick archway with a door cooling in the shadows from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, for today’s Thursday Doors.
Aanhou Wen, meaning “Keep Winning” in Afrikaans, underneath a Jacaranda Tree.
Photo taken by my daughter who studies at the University of Pretoria, established in 1903.

An entrance fit for a bastion of knowledge.
Sweetie! 🙂 Yes!!
A doorway to future victories
Beautifully said 🙂
A formidable entrance and an appropriate statement. I think acquiring knowledge is the way to keep winning. I’m not sure if they chose that message for that reason, but I like it almost as much as the craftsmanship of that entrance. From what I can see of the doors, they are equally impressive.
I am sure there was a good reason behind their motto 🙂 as this was one of the first buildings.
They don’t make them like this anymore, I want to add.
No, they don’t. I watched a home improvement show last week. A mason was talking about the various brick patterns. He said that brickwork is almost all done with veneers today and hardly ever structural.
Beautiful! Solid looking entrance. I like how the color carries through on the tiles. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Pat.
I imagine how the feeling of stepping inside for the first time must be quite different from that of the final exit.
This is my kind of door, beautiful.
Thank you, Valentina. Mine too 🙂
That’s a beauty, Patricia!
I am happy that you love it, Janet 🙂
This brick archway is very impressive. I like the brick work at the arches creating the overlapping design. The “keep winning” statement sounds very appropriate for a university entrance door. Thank you so much for shring, Patricia!
I was sure you will love it, Blanca 🙂
Yes, the various layering of brickwork adds to its beauty.
