Gazing out at sea, lost in thoughts or maybe that second when one’s life is changed forever – join me in a 100-word story like the tales featured in my latest book, Dreamland.
…life in antiquity was fraught with danger…
Gazing Out at Sea
With tenfold strength they made it for the peaceful shore.
The young mother, basket in hand, stretched her back – yet again – to check on her babe. She smiled at the rosebud mouth, steamed by sleep. Life was good.
What was that? Not dolphins. What else?
Pressing her babe’s head against her full breast she dashed for the village, screaming: ‘Invaders!’
Gazing out at sea, the sailor’s weather-beaten faces lit up in unison. It was the thin strip, rugged-green, that suddenly broke the blue of the sea from the blue of the sky. Land! And a rich one, too.
